It’s officially Fall! The air is crisp, the leaves are just beginning to turn and pumpkin spice lattes are being served at the local coffee shops. I don’t know about you, but I love the Fall! I get this cozy feeling inside thinking of conversation around a bon fire on a cool night, football games on the weekend, picking a pumpkin at the local patch or sipping a warm cup of apple cider. What also comes along with the change of season is the change of home décor. How do you warm up your space for the Fall?

For some of us, decorating for a new season can be exciting and for others it may be a little stressful. While it can be work to re-arrange décor in your home, it can also be therapeutic. I like to turn on music that inspires me and lifts my mood, light a fall scented candle, and set the mood for a fun day of decorating. Creating an experience for myself to make the work more enjoyable is what motivates me and may help you as well!

After creating the ambiance for yourself, it’s time to get to business. This is my favorite part! I like to go through my bins of Fall Décor a week before I know I’ll be decorating so I can see what I may want to add to my space; especially if you’re in a new space. Once everything is gathered and purchased, the decorating begins!

To begin, I like to ask myself, where do I spend a chunk of my time where I will enjoy my décor? From there, that helps me to determine the few spots I’d like to focus on decorating. I typically go with my kitchen table, kitchen island and either coffee table or fireplace mantle in the great room. If you host quite a bit, these locations in your home will also be enjoyed by guests.

Instead of going into great detail of the do’s and don’ts of styling your décor, I’d like to complete this blog with my favorite trick when I’m decorating for the season. Anchoring your décor in a tray is a fantastic way to create that first layer of interest while also building a beautiful focal point that can be easily moved if necessary. For example, you may decide to style a long dough bowl filled with pumpkins and fall foliage on your kitchen table. This is simple yet easy to remove when needed for family dinners in the evening. Another example is a tiered tray on your kitchen island. These are fun to decorate with kitchen seasonal favorites!

The options are endless when it comes to styling your seasonal decor, however taking the time to think through what is functional for my family is helpful in the end. When in doubt, call a friend who has a design eye, and they will lead you in the right direction. Happy decorating!
