Natural is the new trend …. I try to use natural cleaning products most of the time, and to be honest, it can actually help my mood when I’m cleaning. Scents do something for my mood, but unfortunately, I’m sensitive to many scents. Walking into a store at the mall that reeks of cologne? Forget it, it’s an instant headache. The same can happen with certain cleaners or candles. I’m learning that many of the truly natural scents don’t bother me so much, and I’m actually drawn to the smells more. I’ve done some research and assembled a list of some natural cleaners that are supposed to be the real deal. Enjoy!
It looks like across the board, everyone agrees that the following ingredients are good to keep on hand for natural cleaning : white vinegar, natural salt, borax (your kids will be happy, too! slime for days …) lemons, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, liquid castile soap, and essential oils. You can do a quick google search for recipes and idea on ways to mix all of these items to clean virtually anything in your home without the toxic fumes of many of the cleaners you get at the store.
Check out the Wellness Mama site for lots of natural cleaning tips and ideas.
I love the idea of making my own cleaners, but really …. I barely have time to shower and get the kids out the door and to school and then make it home and do the night-time routine. The idea of adding the task of making my own cleaners to the list of things to do is taunting. However, point me in the right direction on which ones to buy, and I’m in! I’ve also compiled a list of excellent natural cleaners that you can purchase, see below.
Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds – good for general housecleaning – dishes, floors, laundry
Bon Ami Powder – scrubber for kitchen, bath, and other surfaces
Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Liquid Soap – use on hands, face, hair, or for soap
Caldrea – everything from laundry to household cleaners to hand care and candles … this is one I definitely want to check out! Their scents look yummy.
