The Badger’s Den – 01/11/13
January 11, 2013    POSTED IN  Home

This is a post in a series documenting the progress on The Badger’s Den. To start at the beginning, click here!

There is a saying that is often assumed to be the creed of the United States Postal Service – “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” It’s actually just an inscription on a post office building in New Year that was translated from an Ancient Greek writing describing the Persian postal service. (It’s amazing what you can learn on Wikipedia.)

I digress.

You may say the same for Joyner Homes this fall and winter season. While we don’t usually work during the gloom of night, The Badger’s Den construction season has seen snow, rain, hail and even some heat at the very beginning. We don’t let that stop us!

Here’s an update.

When we left off last time, we were finishing up the framing for the second level. This is the great room and the entry to the kitchen is on the right.

Next on the agenda are roof trusses.

This is an awesome photo of the bonus room dormer. The playroom may have the best view in the house!

The house wrap, roof paper and windows happen next. I like this stage because everything starts to look “buttoned up.” You’ll notice they selected black windows. Love this look!

Meanwhile, on the inside of the home, big things are happening like electrical wiring, plumbing, fireplaces and HVAC. Those aren’t much fun to see in photos though.

Finally, it’s time for some siding and roofing. For The Badger’s Den, we will use a variety of siding types such as lapp, board and batten and shake. All of the siding is a fiber cement board product which will be low maintenance and stay looking nice for quite a while. The remaining exterior finishes will be a combination of brick and stone.

Time for decking! This view really showcases the deck that will be off of the Owner’s Suite, complete with a covered porch.

I love this view! Or, is it the blue sky? 🙂

I fell in love with this cedar ceiling on the front porch the moment I saw it. Certainly one of this home’s most stunning “Character Rich” features.

Remember that blue sky? This view came a few days later…

And, now for the exciting stuff on the inside of the home – Drywall! It’s a piece of the puzzle that really makes things feel real. This is the great room looking into the kitchen and dining area.

And, the ever exciting, drywall mud! OK, not so exciting, but certainly important. Think they have enough?

Now that you’re up to speed, we’re getting ready to take off again! Up next will be cabinet installation, hard flooring surfaces and lighting. We’re not too far away now from the big reveal! Stay tuned!
