Today I want to introduce you to one of our awesome owners, Sara Joyner! She is always buzzing around keeping her hand in everything in the office. She’s intelligent and friendly and funny; she’s just the best!!
How long have you worked at Joyner Homes?
Since the beginning! Tom and I started Joyner Homes in 2006.
What do you do at JH?
A little bit of everything! I enjoy working on special projects like a new website and new software implementation. My regular duties are mainly on the financial side, with a little bit of HR, IT, and general operations mixed in too!
If you could switch jobs with someone in Joyner Homes, who would it be? Why?
I’m not sure! I’ve worked in almost every capacity over the last 13 years – marketing, sales, selections, accounting, and with pieces and parts of the construction process. I think I like my job the best because I still get to play a part in all of it, but have a new challenge whenever I want one!
What 3 words would you use to describe Joyner Homes?
Character, fun, unique
What do you do when you’re not at work?
Our three kids keep us busy with all of their activities – they’re an active bunch! I like to run half marathons, so I usually run a few days a week. And, whenever I can, I love to travel. I’ll go anywhere, but I particularly like new places!
What random facts can you share with us?
I have been to four continents – North America (obviously), Europe, Africa, and Asia – some day I hope to hit them all!
Are you messy or organized?
I’m definitely on the messy with physical things (clutter, piles, clothes, etc.), but in general, I keep my life pretty organized!
What’s your favorite outside activity?
Honestly, just hanging out without some place to be. It can be by the fire, by a pool, by a beach, or just on the front porch – makes no difference!
If you could change something about today’s youth, what would it be? Alternately, what excites you about today’s young generation?
Oh geez… with three “youths” at home, I have a lot of advice that I feel like I’m always giving them! I don’t know that I would change a whole lot about the generation in general, but I would tell them all to slow down and enjoy the moment! As for excitement, I think it’s really cool that these kids have the world at their fingertips thanks to the Internet and social media. Obviously, that has it’s drawbacks, but they have access to so much information that I can really see innovation in their future!
What would you tell your 13-year old self?
Chill out! Life is not about how much work you get done in a day or about what grade you get for a class. It’s about the difference that you make in the world. (I may still have to remind myself of this from time to time!)
How do you define success?
Personal success, at this point in my life, is when we have raised our three kids to be generous, wise, well-adjusted, and most importantly, a good citizen. My thoughts on the success of Joyner Homes is not really much different. It’s not about how many homes we build, but rather the impact we have in our local community.
I hope you are enjoying our member spotlight! We’re nearing the end of this little project!! In the meantime, you can see and read more about who we are HERE.
